Cllr Cate Hopkinson- Mayor of Matlock, and David Horne- Commercial Director of East Midlands Trains, welcome passengers, tourism officials and councillors from the communities along the Derwent Valley Line to Matlock station.
Mayors and community representatives from the towns and villages along the Derwent Valley Line united on a train on Wednesday 17 December to celebrate the launch of East Midlands Trains’ new hourly rail service. It is hoped the new services will boost tourism and help Matlock and Dales residents to access their major cities more easily. It should also help reduce congestion on some of the busy roads into the Peak District.
Onboard the 12.50 train from Derby to Matlock there was a party atmosphere as Derbyshire folk singers Keith and Sylvia Kendrick entertained an audience of mayors, officials and passengers with a selection of songs from the towns and communities along the route.
