Commenting on the Network Rail’s business plan published today for Control Period 4 Michael Roberts, Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies, said:
“This investment programme is a major opportunity to provide a better railway for passengers and we welcome Network Rail’s focus on meeting the needs of its customers. Delivery is now the key and its success will depend on all parties working together. Network Rail will need to redouble its recent moves to improve the speed and efficiency with which it undertakes projects large and small.
“Train companies have a key role to play in areas such as station improvements and ensuring the network remains open for business amid a major programme of works. And Government needs to stand behind its existing commitments not only on funding, but also in other areas such as the delivery of additional rolling stock to provide much-needed capacity in the railways.”
