Rail industry services update

Michael Roberts, director general of the Rail Delivery Group which speaks on behalf of the rail industry, said: “With many people getting away to join family and friends over the festive period, we apologise to passengers whose journeys are affected by the bad weather.

“Rail staff are doing everything they can to help passengers be with loved ones for Christmas. Strong winds can damage overhead wires, bring down trees and blow other obstacles on to rail lines. To ensure the safety of passengers and our staff, train speeds are being reduced which means we cannot run as many services as planned.

“Where services are affected, operators are advising passengers to consider changing their travel plans and have already lifted ticket restrictions to help them do so. Passengers have been advised to travel earlier to take advantage of the greater flexibility being offered by some operators and anyone still looking to travel should check the National Rail Enquiries website for the latest information."
