Customers have bought a record number of First Class tickets for travel with East Coast

Almost a quarter of a million journeys with East Coast were sold during a four week period in January – the highest ever First Class sales for the operator since it started running the franchise in 2009.

The record sales were boosted by East Coast’s ‘Big Seat Sale’ in early January which offered First Class tickets from £20 for one-way to destinations along the East Coast route. The ‘Seat Sale’ was the biggest ever promotion by the train operator.

East Coast Commercial and Customer Service Director Peter Williams said: “The success of our January Seat Sale has helped attract record customers to enjoy our First Class experience. The fantastic fares attracted new customers to our website and to experience the home comforts of travelling with East Coast.”

For more than 50% of those who booked travel, this was their first time booking online with East Coast. The promotion also offered Standard tickets from £5 one-way and attracted bookings from more than 70,000 people.

The East Coast First Class offer includes complimentary food and drink, free Wi-Fi and more space.

The promotion was advertised on regional radio stations along the route as well as online and national and local press.
