London Overground increases by one third
Today London Overground Rail Operations Limited (LOROL), which operates the London Overground on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), began operating local rail services from Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Cheshunt, Chingford and the Romford to Upminster line.
The transfer of West Anglia routes to the London Overground* increases the business by one third, with route length increasing to 104 miles and workforce increasing to 1,500. LOROL also takes over the management of an additional 24 stations and 31 trains**.
Passengers on these routes will see a number of improvements from day one. There will be staff at every station from before the first service until after the last, a Turn Up and Go service for passengers with a disability and improved reliability, with a more comprehensive plan of improvements being delivered in phases over the next 18 months.
Peter Austin, LOROL Managing Director, said: “At LOROL we are passionate about the service we deliver on the London Overground – over the past 7.5 years we have taken underused rail lines and run down stations and created one of the most popular and punctual railways in the UK. We are really proud of what we have achieved to date.
“Over the next 18 months we aim to transform these new routes by improving the rail service and integrating them into the London Overground, bringing new opportunities, access to jobs, regeneration and growth for our customers, communities and employees.”
LOROL carries caries 135 million passengers a year, 450,000 each week day and has a customer satisfaction rate of 91%*** which is among the best in the industry. Punctuality on the London Overground is also among the best at 95%****.
LOROL’s excellent performance was recognised when it was honoured with the prestigious Rail Operator of the Year award at the 2015 London Transport Awards in March.
