Commenting on the government’s call for evidence on improving mobile communications to UK rail passengers, a spokesman for the Rail Delivery Group, which represents Network Rail and train operators, said:

"Network Rail and operators fully support improvements for passengers. Like some other parts of the country, the railway suffers from poor coverage in many locations. This can be due to lines running through tunnels, along the bottom of cuttings and through rural locations.

"We are committed to working with government, the telecoms industry and others to deliver better mobile connectivity for passengers.”
