A spokesperson for Crossrail Ltd said: “Following the opening of the central section between the new Paddington Elizabeth line station and Abbey Wood in 2021, the remaining opening stages will occur which will introduce through services from Shenfield and Reading, known as Stages 4 and 5.

“Twelve trains per hour will operate between Paddington and Abbey Wood when the central section opens, this will increase to 24 trains per hour in the peak between Paddington and Whitechapel at Stage 4. The core tenant of our plan to complete the Elizabeth line is ensuring the highest levels of reliability at Stage 3 before 24 trains per hour are introduced into the central section at Stage 4.”
