Railway Mission

Payroll Giving (sometimes called Give As You Earn) is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to donate
Be there for someone on the railway
Every day, thousands of people keep the railway moving: station teams, drivers, engineers, signallers, controllers, cleaners, contractors, and office staff. Behind the uniforms are real lives, sometimes carrying grief, exhaustion, family pressures, debt worries, or the impact of traumatic incidents on the line. When the railway is under pressure, so are its people.
The Railway Mission is there for them.
Our chaplains and support workers offer a listening ear and practical help where it is needed most, on stations, in depots, control rooms, and offices. We are independent, confidential, and available to everyone, whatever their role, faith, or background. Often, it is a simple conversation that makes the difference: someone noticing, someone checking in, someone walking alongside a person through a tough season.
You can help keep that care on the network through Payroll Giving.
Payroll Giving (sometimes called Give As You Earn) is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to donate. Your gift comes straight from your salary before tax is taken, so it costs you less while making the same impact. For example, a £10 monthly donation could cost you as little as £8, and if you pay higher-rate tax, potentially £6. Regular giving helps fund chaplaincy visits, travel, resources, and timely support for people who may have nowhere else to turn.
Here is the next step:
1. Contact your company’s payroll or HR department.
2. Ask if your workplace has a Payroll Giving scheme.
3. Request to start a regular donation to the Railway Mission (or add us as your chosen charity if the scheme is already in place).
4. Set an amount that feels comfortable, then let it work quietly in the background, month after month.
If your employer does not currently offer Payroll Giving, ask them to consider setting it up. It is straightforward, and it is a powerful way for staff to make a lasting difference.
