The Great Western Railway Magazine would celebrate its 50th anniversary in November 1938 as a continually-published title, although it had only gained official status in 1903.
It had originally been trimmed to a larger page size, but this was reduced to the dimensions shown here in 1905.
This design lasted through the 1930s, but was replaced during the publication’s final years, which came to an end in December 1947.
During the 1940s, the Magazine depicted various grades of GWR staff on the front cover of each issue, all with the caption ‘Pride in the Job’.
More images of the staff at work, with the same caption, were included in some issues of the British Railways Western Region magazine after the railways had been nationalised in 1948.
