Railwayman’s insurance advertisement
By 1942 the companies’ magazines were publishing many items of war news, subject to censorship, both from the home front and overseas.
This LNER edition includes a Roll of Honour giving the names of those who had lost their lives, as well as a report of Home Guard activities.
One of the effects of the war was a paper shortage, because wood pulp could rarely be imported.
As a result, although pre-war editions of the LNER magazine had typically consisted of 80 pages, by 1942 the page count had come down to 24.
