‘Carry On’

The Editor’s message includes a reference to ‘this newspaper’, although the front cover describes ‘Carry On’ as the ‘Staff News Magazine of British Railways.’
It is true that the internal layout resembled a newspaper, but a conventional magazine format returned after the title of ‘Carry On’ was no longer used by the London Midland Region of British Railways.
The number of this edition was 87, which suggests that the first issue had been published in November 1940. However, the Editor’s message says that ‘Carry On’ had begun in 1939.
This may have been because the numbering of each edition was restarted in November 1940, or because some monthly issues had been missed. It is also just possible that the reference to ’1939’ was an error, but this seems unlikely.
