Decimalisation story

Decimalisation poster

The currency of the United Kingdom was converted to decimal units on 15 February 1971, although British Rail started to handle the new decimal copper coins one day earlier.

The change affected everybody, and particularly the many thousands of British Rail staff who handled money as part of their duties, but Rail News did not mention the imminent changeover on the front page of its February edition.
