The award by the Scottish Government to Serco plc was announced on 28 May 2014 (signed 10 June 2014) and would have run until March 2030.
The Scottish Government announced on 5 October 2022 that the franchise would end in June 2023, on the grounds that it would not represent value for money for taxpayers if it continued.
