description
By 2003 the transfer of responsibility from the SRA to Merseyside PTE was being arranged, and a new 25-year concession was let by the PTE (now Merseytravel) in 2003, which was won by a consortium of Serco and NedRail (which became Abellio).
Abellio’s British operations have been acquired by a British management buyout, and the formal handover to Transport UK Group was completed on 28 February 2023. TUKG is continuing to use the Abellio brand for some of its operations.
***NOTE*** As this operator has been awarded a concession independently of the Department for Transport no changes are expected before July 2028.
