| British Rail ![]() Reference library British Rail was the trading name of the British Railways Board from 1965-66. After privatisation had been completed in the 1990s the Board became the owner of BR Residuary Limited in 2001, which was created to handle the Board’s outstanding liabilities and obligations. BR Residuary was wound up in 2013. ![]() This is to be used for all purposes except correspondence on behalf of the British Railways Board, and where the Board is legally committed to the use of the “British Railways Board” as defined in the 1962 Transport Act.
